Poetry: Devotion

 Devotion

What if common sense isn’t what we are made for?

What if we are made to live- and to love- extravagantly

With our whole hearts, our whole bodies, our whole minds?

What if the Love Dogs are howling for connection

And your breasts are like clusters

Of grapes on the vine- and Kama

Is the Word of God made flesh?

Rati summons me to her side; I have no resistance.

I ache with the thought of you tonight-
Falling into a sweetness
I have only begun to trust

Is this what they mean by transcendence?

The opening of the bud

The swelling of the rose

The wet and thorny vine?

Who are we to hide this flowering

Behind a wall?
Give in! Fall down laughing.

Surrender everything you are to this life.
